745 PM.
My father, Pfc. William W. Taylor Jr. served in the 100th. Infantry Division, 399th. Regiment, Co. A. His Division saw duty in France and Germany spending 185 consecutive days on the battle line. He wrote nearly 300 letters home chronicling his service to our country. Like so many combat veterans of the War he spoke little of his experiences, but these letters tell the story.
Hooray! Those last months of service didn't seem like fun at all.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! Those last months seemed like torture didn't they? It was all so anti-climatic after being in combat. It must have been quite a moment for Bill and his folks when he stepped off the train at Union Terminal. The same thing was happening daily to hundreds if not thousands of returning soldiers and their families at the time.
